Grass Dale, the Darling Downs and what a day in Toowoomba told us about Queensland ag

Before the Beef Battle, there was a feedlot tour. And it set the tone for the whole day.
Will Onus joined the Fulton Market Group (FMG) team last week to explore the Darling Downs ahead of the Toowoomba Surat Basin Enterprise (TSBE) Beef Battle- a day that started with a tour of the Grass Dale Feedlot, hosted by Scott Braund and Brad Robinson from Mort & Co, and ended with a room full of people who care seriously about where Queensland beef is heading.
Grass Dale is the kind of operation that makes the scale of what's happening in southern Queensland visible in a way that's hard to convey in a presentation. The size, the management sophistication, the attention to efficiency- it's a reminder that the feedlot sector is often ahead of the broader industry conversation, already tracking inputs and outputs in detail and increasingly aware of how emissions data fits into that picture.
"The opportunities in Toowoomba are hard to miss," Will reflected after the tour. "The scale of the operations here, along with the level of innovation, really shows how agriculture is moving forward in this region."
The Beef Battle itself wrapped up the day well! Congratulations to Stockyard Beef for taking out the Judges' Award and to Stanbroke for the People's Choice (both are doing serious work on quality, and it showed).
Thanks to April Cavanagh, Rowie Beveridge and Anna Geddes from TSBE for the warm welcome, and to Nick Wolf and Charlie Barrington from FMG for the invite. The Darling Downs is always worth the trip!
